Art of integrity/productive dialog
November 27th, 2004
Good art is honest and has a core of truth to it. If I censor my most deeply held beliefs, then the art becomes an ineffective shadow of what it could be. I am true to who I am and true to my art. . .this is artistic and personal integrity. Art of integrity has a habit of ruffling feathers because it will ask us to think and maybe even to grow.
Obviously what I have to say about compassion and justice doesn't resonate with everyone. But, I do hope this music will encourage others to explore the growing edge of what I am saying, considering it for intellectual soundness, spiritual correctness, human wisdom and compelling thought or history.
I will honor opinions that differ from mine, because I know there are fine and good people who have come to very different conclusions on what it means to walk well upon this earth.
Sometimes we will just have to respectfully agree to disagree.
The country is deeply divided and I think it's more important than ever to encourage an honest and productive exchange of ideas. I will continue to encourage this kind of dialog in the most loving and positive way I can. I will continue to follow my heart and my art with truth and love.
Pax, Shalom, Namaste,
Carrie
